GRACE — A local teenager drowned in the Bear River north of Grace on Saturday afternoon.
The Caribou County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as Kameron Aden Bowers, 18, of Pocatello.
The Caribou County Sheriff’s Office said it responded to the Last Chance Flume on Last Chance Lane around 2 p.m. Saturday after Bowers’ friends called 911 to report that he had jumped into the Bear River from the flume and never surfaced.
Caribou County ambulance and search and rescue units, Idaho State Police, and the Bear Lake County Sheriff’s Department dive team all responded quickly to assist Caribou County deputies in their search for Bowers.
Bowers’ body was eventually discovered in the river and recovered by emergency crews around 8:20 p.m. Saturday.
The incident resulted in Last Chance Lane being closed for approximately six hours.
“We would like to thank the many professional responders from Caribou County, Bear Lake County, Idaho State Police, and the volunteers who assisted at the scene,” the Caribou County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release on Sunday. “Our condolences go out to the family and friends of the victim during this difficult time.”
