An elderly lady has recovered after feeling ill while high up in the Bighorn Mountains.

At around 11:30 p.m. on Monday (July 1st), the Big Horn County Wyoming Sheriff’s Office received a 911 text about a 60-year-old female experiencing symptoms of possible altitude sickness in a remote location in the Cloud Peak Wilderness, between Lake Solitude and Battle Park.

A ground team was dispatched to the Battle Park trailhead to begin hiking to the subject’s location, and Guardian Flight Wyoming was also contacted to see if they could reach the patient for a helicopter evacuation.

At around 2:20 a.m. Tuesday, Guardian Flight Wyoming was able to land at the patient’s location, make contact, and load her for a flight to the Worland Wyoming hospital, where she was treated and released later that day.

This is the 22nd mission for Big Horn County, Wyoming Search and Rescue teams, both north and south, for the 2025 season, resulting in a total of 1,626 man hours in missions this year, plus many more hours of training.
