Flooding continues to affect eastern Arkansas, particularly along the White and Cache Rivers, as floodwaters rise and submerge farmland and isolate homes. Flood warnings remain in effect through Friday, June 20, for several counties, including Augusta, Clarendon, Georgetown, and Des Arc.
Ongoing Flooding Along the White River
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, flood warnings are active for communities along the White River. Minor flooding has already been observed, and more is expected.
In Georgetown, the river level reached 21.3 feet on Tuesday night, surpassing the 21-foot flood stage. This has resulted in road closures, particularly in areas like Raft Creek Bottoms and Hurricane Lake WMA, where roads are already underwater.
In Clarendon, floodwaters reached 28.4 feet on Tuesday night, affecting roads and cabins near Maddox Bay and Highway 146. Augusta is also facing significant flooding, with water levels at 31.4 feet, inundating camps and flooding thousands of acres of farmland.
Cache River Flooding
The Cache River is also experiencing flooding, though it is expected to subside by Friday morning. The river crested at 9.1 feet overnight, just above the flood stage. This has led to some road closures and the relocation of equipment from low-lying timberlands.
Safety and Travel Warnings
Motorists are urged to avoid driving through flooded roads or attempting to drive around barricades. The floodwaters are dangerous and can quickly change road conditions. Residents in flood-prone areas are advised to move equipment to higher ground and prepare for limited access through early next week.
Flood warnings are expected to remain in effect through Friday, and additional updates will be issued, including a statement by Wednesday night at 11:15 p.m. Residents should stay alert and continue to monitor weather reports.
Residents along the White and Cache Rivers should remain vigilant as floodwaters continue to rise. The situation is expected to persist through the weekend, with potential disruptions to travel and daily life.
