Little Rock, Arkansas – Rain continues to fall in Arkansas this week, with the heaviest amounts expected in the western half of the state, where localized flooding is possible by midweek.
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue through Tuesday morning, dumping up to an inch of rain in northwest Arkansas, with lower totals near Little Rock and central counties.
A broader, more widespread system is expected Wednesday through Saturday, bringing one to three inches of rain statewide.
Western Arkansas, which includes Fort Smith, Fayetteville, and surrounding counties, could see totals exceed three inches. The NWS warns that the overlap with early-week rainfall increases the risk of isolated flooding, particularly where soils are still dry from recent drought conditions.
Central and southeast Arkansas are expected to receive at least one inch of much-needed rain to help alleviate ongoing drought stress.
Travelers should exercise caution on rural roads that are prone to flooding, and avoid low-lying areas. Emergency managers advise residents to keep an eye on alerts because more advisories may be issued if rainfall rates increase.
Rain chances are expected to remain high through the weekend, with conditions improving by early next week.
