In Minnesota, a man is accused of killing his girlfriend’s friend’s boyfriend after arguing the night before.
Aron Isait Medina Rojas, 20, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Daniel Isaac Aguilar, 21, according to Dakota County court records.
On Sunday, July 6, at approximately 3:12 a.m., officers from the Apple Valley Police Department responded to an unspecified street on a report of a “non-responsive male lying on a sidewalk.”
The man’s body, later identified as Aguilar, was found to have a “significant amount of blood around him,” as well as what police believed to be a puncture wound to the left side of the chest.
“His body was still warm to the touch,” the court document reads. Aguilar was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers said they searched the area and “located what appeared to be a blood trail” leading up to the victim’s body, as well as personal items, a broken glass jar, “and some cans and bottles of alcohol in a driveway to the east of where Victim’s body was found.”
Investigators believe the blood trail began approximately 50 feet east of the driveway.
According to the court document, police discovered nearby surveillance footage showing the victim walking for approximately 35 minutes before being dispatched to the area.
A minute later, vehicle headlights appeared on the video, along with the voices of two men and possibly one woman.
“The voices sound elevated, as if they were arguing,” the document states.
According to police, the next minute, a man other than Aguilar, later identified as Rojas, can be seen walking toward Aguilar as the victim backs away. The suspect is said to have hit the victim in the left chest.
“I’m f-ing walking home, bro,” Aguilar reportedly stated. “Let me be.”
However, Rojas is accused of punching Aguilar in the throat area, causing the victim to collapse and be discovered by police.
According to the document, the suspect and another person, believed to be a woman, walked toward Aguilar, and the woman “pointed an illuminated phone” at the victim as they approached.
They then walked out of camera range and are thought to have left as the headlights turned around.
As police began their investigation, they learned what happened in the hours preceding the stabbing.
Aguilar’s family members said he was with his girlfriend at a club in Minneapolis on Saturday night, July 5.
When officers attempted to speak with the girlfriend at her home, she allegedly fled and led them back to the crime scene, where she appeared to be looking for something. She later admitted that she was looking for his cellphone.
Aguilar’s girlfriend informed police that the couple had been arguing at the club. Meanwhile, her friend kept calling to ask why she was out with him when Aguilar had allegedly cheated on her, she claimed.
The girlfriend allegedly told a friend that she “hated” Aguilar. The girlfriend’s friend is said to have been Rojas’ girlfriend.
Aguilar and his girlfriend left the club and drove to an Apple Valley Minnesota Valley Transit Authority parking lot, “where they continued arguing,” according to the document. At this point, the friend announced that she and Rojas were on their way to pick up Aguilar’s girlfriend.
Authorities say Aguilar walked away as Rojas and his girlfriend drove into the parking lot. The second couple told Aguilar’s girlfriend, who was crying, that they would take her to a friend’s house, which Rojas’ girlfriend later confirmed to police.
According to the victim’s girlfriend, the document states: “While driving away, they saw Victim walking and Defendant asked [Aguilar’s girlfriend] if Victim had a’strap on’ which [Aguilar’s girlfriend] understood to be a gun.”
[Rojas’ girlfriend] and Defendant dropped off [Aguilar’s girlfriend] at their friend’s house and left. When Victim’s phone location remained unchanged for several hours, [Aguilar’s girlfriend] went to see if she could locate the phone.”
Rojas’ girlfriend later told police that after dropping off Aguilar’s girlfriend, they saw him walking and stopped.
Rojas’ girlfriend stated that she exited the car and confronted him, but Aguilar “became aggressive with her,” causing Rojas to also exit the vehicle.
She stated that a fight ensued, and as it progressed, she saw Aguilar “extend an arm before sitting down on the sidewalk.”” Rojas returned to the car “with blood on his shirt and told her that they had to leave.”
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Aguilar died from “multiple sharp force injuries, and the manner of death was determined to be homicide.”
Rojas has not been apprehended. Police believe he is attempting to flee to Mexico, according to Minneapolis ABC affiliate KSTP.
