Brief: A missing 21-year-old was discovered dead on the Wind River Reservation

A missing 21-year-old man’s body was discovered Monday on the Wind River Indian Reservation, a federal police agency confirmed Friday.

Andrew L. Brown, 21, was reported missing on July 7, according to a Friday email from U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) spokesman Joshua Barnett.

“At this time, foul play is not suspected; however, the investigation is ongoing,” Barnett stated.

The BIA Missing and Murdered Unit began investigating the case on July 15, coordinating a search with volunteers from the Lander and Riverton Search and Rescue teams, the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, Shoshone and Arapaho Tribal Game and Fish, the Wind River Police Department, the FBI’s Lander Field Office, and the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI).

Brown’s last known contact date was February 8, according to DCI’s missing persons database.

According to the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office call log, the Fremont County Coroner’s Office was called to respond to a dead body on Monday at 10:02 a.m.

The Fremont County Coroner’s Office declined to comment this week on the case.

The BIA is a federal agency that patrols the Wind River Indian Reservation and maintains an outpost there.
