GREEN BAY, Wis. – On Tuesday afternoon, Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach declared September 15-21 as Suicide Awareness Week in Brown County.

The announcement was made during a press conference at the Brown County Crisis Center, where officials discussed how people can get help if they or someone they know needs it, particularly in September, which is National Suicide Prevention Month.

Executive Streckenbach stated that in 2024, 28 people in Brown County died by suicide, with approximately 900 suicide deaths in Wisconsin, while also offering resources for people in crisis.

One of the many ways to get help is to call, text, or chat online at 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.

Executive Streckenbach, Health and Human Services Director Erik Pritzl, and Family Service President/CEO Letesha Nelson also highlighted additional resources, which can be found here.
