According to officials, a Georgia police officer is recovering after being shot in the face while responding to a suspicious vehicle call.
Timothy Craig Ramsey, 26, was arrested Friday night after allegedly shooting McCaysville police Capt. Brantley Worley.
Chief Michael Earley told reporters that officers were responding to a suspicious person call on First Street shortly after 11 p.m.
When officers arrived on the scene, Ramsey allegedly opened fire and “brutally shot my officer in the face,” Earley told Atlanta ABC affiliate WSB.
The shooting sparked a massive manhunt, with local, state, and federal authorities looking for Ramsey. Police attempted to arrest the suspect at his home early Saturday morning, but he was not present.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation issued a “Blue Alert” on Saturday, requesting public assistance in the search for Ramsey. Cops received a tip about the suspect’s whereabouts and arrested him around 6 p.m. Saturday.
Ramsey is accused of aggravated assault with the intent to murder a police officer. According to neighbors, Ramsey was “aggressive and violent” and once shot out someone’s windows because he thought the person had killed his cat.
Worley, who was promoted to captain in July, has been with McCaysville police for three years and has approximately 15 years of law enforcement experience. According to Earley, the bullet broke his neck and caused a brain bleed.
“Captain Worley is a dedicated officer who has faithfully served this community, and we are asking everyone to keep him, his family, and our department in your thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time,” according to his statement.
McCaysville is a small town in northern Georgia that shares a border with Tennessee.
