Casper Police Department: Friday's heightened presence in Downtown Casper was intended to "ensure community safety for all"

CASPER, Wyo. — On Friday night, many Casper residents noticed a higher police presence in downtown.

Oil City News was present in the parking lot of The Science Zone, where a number of police vehicles converged.

At the time, a CPD spokesperson stated that the officers were “performing proactive patrols” and that there was no active threat to the community.

Oil City News contacted Rebekah Ladd, the Casper Police Department’s public information officer, to learn more about proactive patrols and why they were taking place that evening.

“Occasionally, the Casper Police Department conducts mobile command operations,” Ladd said in a written statement. “These operations are intended to generate high visibility in order to deter and respond to criminal activity and safety concerns in specific areas of our community.

With increased activity downtown and throughout Casper this week, the mobile command was activated as an additional precaution to ensure community safety for all.”

It is unclear whether these mobile command operations will continue to operate throughout the summer. Oil City News will continue to provide updates on these operations as they become available.
