Casper, Wyo. – Daniel J. Itzen, the Natrona County District Attorney, determined that the two Casper Police Officers involved in the critical incident on April 28, 2025, who discharged their weapons were justified in their actions.
“This incident demonstrates how a call for service can quickly escalate into a life-threatening situation,” said Casper Police Chief Shane Chaney. “The nature of this profession necessitates that our officers be prepared for the unimaginable at any time.
Every day, our officers willingly stand in harm’s way, responding to our citizens’ needs and protecting them from harm, fully aware that danger can strike at any time. I applaud the officers involved for acting to protect themselves and others in the face of imminent, life-threatening danger.
They, like all members of our community, have the right to self-defense and safe return to their families. We also recognize that any loss of life is deeply tragic, and the consequences of such incidents go far beyond a single moment.
I am grateful to the Natrona County District Attorney and the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation for their thorough and impartial review of this case. The Casper Police Department remains dedicated to protecting and serving the citizens of Casper.”
