EGELSTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WILX) — A dramatic late-night water rescue in Michigan, captured on bodycam video, is drawing national attention—even as far as Wyoming—where first responders are recognizing the courage and urgency of the response.
Just before midnight on Thursday, Michigan State Police troopers from the Grand Rapids post rushed to the Wolf Lake Boat Launch to assist deputies in a water emergency.
When troopers arrived, emergency crews were already helping an adult man and a 2-year-old child out of the water. But another man remained stranded—clinging to the roof of a partially submerged car and unable to swim.
Video footage shows troopers plunging into the freezing lake, fighting the cold and currents to pull the man to safety.
Both adult men survived the terrifying ordeal. Tragically, the 2-year-old child succumbed to injuries and died shortly after being taken to the hospital.
The rescue effort highlights the life-and-death stakes first responders face daily, a reality Wyoming’s own emergency crews know all too well as they prepare for similar high-risk situations across the state.
