What was meant to be a fun day at Six Flags Darien Lake ended in chaos Monday night as deputies from the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office were forced to deploy pepper balls to break up disturbances outside the theme park.
According to authorities, around 7:45 p.m.—shortly after the park had closed—large groups began gathering near the main entrance gates. Two separate altercations erupted, each involving two individuals, prompting a law enforcement response to maintain order.
Despite initial efforts to calm the situation, the crowds continued to grow, making it difficult for deputies to control the scene. As a result, pepper balls—a non-lethal method of crowd control—were used to disperse the surrounding groups.
Officials confirmed that all individuals involved in the altercations were juveniles. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and no criminal charges were filed.
While this incident happened in New York, it has resonated as far as Wyoming, where families who had recently vacationed at the same theme park expressed concern online. Many voiced relief that no one was hurt but emphasized the need for better crowd management during large events.
As Six Flags locations continue to draw visitors from across the nation—including tourists from Wyoming looking for summer adventures—incidents like these are a reminder of the importance of safety measures beyond the rides and attractions.
