Commissioners of Laramie County will examine new subdivisions and authorize grant applications

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The Laramie County Board of Commissioners will meet Tuesday to consider more than $1 million in grant funding applications, including a new rapid DNA system for the Coroner’s Office, as well as a number of land use proposals.

The commissioners will meet at 3:30 p.m. in the Historic Courthouse, 310 W. 19th St. The meeting is open to the public. Those who wish to attend the meeting virtually and provide feedback online can do so at www.laramiecountywy.gov.

The commissioners will review several grant applications and funding agreements for county departments and local nonprofits. Requests for State Homeland Security Grants are included on the consent agenda.

This includes a request for more than $250,000 for the Coroner’s Office’s rapid DNA system, as well as a nearly $320,000 grant for livestock panels to establish a new animal containment system at the Archer Complex.

The Events Department requested the panels following a chaotic animal evacuation during a grass fire in March 2024.

The sheriff’s office also wants to approve the $37,000 purchase of two new tactical throwbots, which are unmanned ground vehicles designed for use in hazardous indoor environments.

The consent agenda will include several annual funding agreements for fiscal year 2026, such as those for Cheyenne LEADS, the United Way of Laramie County, and the Cheyenne Downtown Development Authority.

The board would also approve amendments to increase grant awards to local non-profits like the Boys & Girls Club of Cheyenne and CLIMB Wyoming.

Several public hearings on land use applications have been scheduled. One hearing is scheduled for Bailey Estates, a proposed 39-acre residential development in which residents from a neighboring community have expressed concerns about the cost of maintaining access roads and increased traffic.

Other hearings are scheduled for the expansion of a camping facility, a new retail liquor license, and two more residential subdivisions.

The agenda and links to supporting documents are attached below.
