A 19-year-old Texas man is accused of unleashing a sword attack on an individual during an argument, hacking away the victim’s hand and mutilating his face before blaming it all on a “dog,” according to cops.
“I cut his motherf—ing hand off,” Deroyce Brown, of Texarkana, told police after the July 23 stabbing, according to the teen’s probable cause affidavit, obtained by local news website TXK Today.
Brown is charged with second-degree assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly attacking another man at a house in the 500 block of Lumpkin Street, according to court records.
The Texarkana Police Department filed Brown’s affidavit in Bowie County on Wednesday, after arresting him the morning of the alleged attack. He is currently being held under a $500,000 bond.
“Was screaming like a b—,” Brown said of the victim after he plunged the sword into his face and eye, according to authorities.
According to the affidavit, a witness at the home reported hearing Brown argue with the victim before waking up and seeing “blood on the floors.”
Brown allegedly fled and was later discovered at a nearby address on Waterman Street, with police following a blood trail from the crime scene to his location, according to investigators.
During his police interview, Brown was asked to recall the alleged incidents.
“What else do you think happened?” he allegedly asked, before describing how he slashed up the man’s face and stabbed his eye and shoulder.
According to police and TXK Today, the two had been drinking and were allegedly fighting over an item that Brown believed had been stolen from him.
Brown allegedly attempted to justify his actions by claiming that a “dog” attacked the victim and that he was acting in self-defense. Authorities were unable to locate any animals inside the home or evidence of an attack on Brown.
After speaking with cops, Brown was allegedly caught on surveillance cameras acting erratically in the interview room. “[Brown] began to laugh out loud and said he didn’t want to talk and confirmed he wanted a lawyer,” the affidavit states, noting that he lay on the floor at one point and verbally recounted how the victim was “screaming.”
Brown faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
