Dapper Riders Hit the Streets: West Michigan Bikers Rally for Men’s Health Fundraiser

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — On Sunday, bikers in Grand Rapids joined thousands of riders across nearly 1,000 cities worldwide—all dressed to impress—for a meaningful cause: raising awareness and funds for prostate cancer research and men’s mental health.

The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride originally began in Sydney, Australia. It was founded by Mark Hawwa, who was inspired by a photo of TV character Don Draper riding a classic motorcycle in a sharp suit. That image sparked the idea for a themed motorcycle ride that brings together communities while supporting men’s health.

Since its launch in 2012, the ride has raised more than $50 million, with nearly half a million participants from 121 countries, according to the event’s official website.

In Grand Rapids, around 50 riders gathered at Millennium Park at 11 a.m. for a social hour to admire each other’s vintage bikes. The ride kicked off at noon, taking participants past Reeds Lake, through downtown Grand Rapids, and up Coit Avenue, tracing the Grand River all the way to Archival Brewing.

This year, the local group is aiming to raise $30,000 to support research and resources for men’s mental health and prostate cancer.
