Delaware Fall Weather This Week Wilmington Sees Sunshine, Drier Conditions Through Mid-September

Wilmington, Delaware – Showers will continue in Wilmington until early Sunday before the skies clear and a dry pattern takes hold across Delaware. Sunshine returns Monday, September 8, as the region begins a period of below-average rainfall that could last until mid-September.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered showers are expected before 10 a.m. Sunday, with highs in the mid 70s. The skies gradually cleared Sunday night, with lows in the mid-50s.

Monday, high pressure builds, bringing full sunshine and temperatures near 75 degrees. According to NOAA’s 6- to 10-day precipitation forecast, Delaware is one of the areas most likely to experience reduced rainfall, raising concerns about soil moisture and stream flows.

Drivers on I-95 between Wilmington and Newark will benefit from drier roads and smoother commutes as the week begins. Farmers and gardeners, on the other hand, may notice crop and lawn stress if the dry spell lasts for too long. Officials warn residents to be cautious when burning outdoors, as drier air may increase fire risks if humidity drops later this week.

While the pattern predicts pleasant, autumn-like afternoons, residents should take advantage of the clear skies while also bracing for the effects of limited rainfall. Reduced rain chances mean that lawns and gardens will require more attention, and water conservation may become critical if the trend continues.

The National Weather Service expects the dry weather to last until late next week, when a weak system may bring the next chance of rain.
