A Wisconsin man is accused of beating his wife at their home after she confronted him about his personal hygiene.
On Sunday, police arrested Michael Navrotsky, 67, in Kenosha and charged him with battery, strangulation and suffocation, and intimidation of a victim, all of which are domestic abuse charges.
According to a criminal complaint obtained by Law&Crime, Michael Navrotsky’s alleged altercation with his wife, 68-year-old Kimberly Navrotsky, began when she told him to take a shower and “she did not want him sleeping on her clean sheets” until he did.
Kimberly Navrotsky allegedly fled to her neighbors’ house following a violent altercation.
Kimberly Navrotsky called police from her home. They saw her with several visible facial injuries, including a bloody nose, which she thought was broken.
When asked by police what happened, Kimberly Navrotsky stated that she and Michael Navrotsky were “arguing” because he “had not showered in two months.”
During their verbal altercation, she told him “she did not want him sleeping on her clean sheets until he had showered.” Michael Navrotsky allegedly approached her, but she pushed him away out of fear that he would attack her.
According to the complaint, Michael Navrotsky allegedly grabbed his wife’s midsection and throat. Kimberly Navrotsky claimed she was unable to breathe for about three seconds.
As she tried to flee her husband, she asked him, “All this over a shower?” She reported to police that her husband then “punched her in the face three times with a closed fist.”
When Kimberly Navrotsky noticed she was “covered in blood,” she informed police that Michael Navrotsky claimed the blood was his. She dashed into the bedroom and tried to dial 911, but he grabbed the phone from her.
The alleged attack continued when Michael Navrotsky grabbed her left ankle and began twisting it. She claimed she kicked him in the groin before fleeing to their neighbors’ house.
Kimberly Navrotsky called 911 from her neighbors’ house and was transported to the hospital with injuries, including a broken nose.
When police questioned Michael Navrotsky, he stated that he and his wife had argued that day because he hadn’t showered in “three weeks.” He claimed that Kimberly Navrotsky was the one who attacked him, and he “back-handed” her once in “self-defense.”
Police believed Kimberly Navrotsky’s injuries were more consistent with the statement she gave.
According to the complaint, Kimberly Navrotsky called police the day after the alleged altercation to tell them that her husband had been diagnosed with “delusional episodes” and “early onset dementia,” which she believed were the causes of his violent behavior. She also stated that he “refused” to seek treatment.
Michael Navrotsky was booked into the Kenosha County Jail on charges of substantial battery, strangulation and suffocation, domestic abuse intimidation of a victim, and misdemeanor disorderly conduct. All four charges include a modifier for alleged crimes against an elderly victim.
He remains in custody on a $5,000 cash bond. His next court date is scheduled for July 1.
