JEFFERSON COUNTY, Idaho — A 15-year-old Canadian runaway is currently in custody in Lincoln County, Wyoming, facing multiple serious felony charges for allegedly stealing and crashing several vehicles in Idaho and Wyoming. Authorities estimate that his alleged crime spree has caused $100,000 in damages.
The series of incidents began on June 29 at 7:12 a.m., when Jefferson County Dispatch received a report of a runaway near Menan, Idaho. The teenager, who was visiting from Canada, was last seen walking south on 3100 E the previous evening.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the teen is suspected of breaking into a BMW dealership in Afton, Wyoming, and stealing the vehicle. The stolen BMW was later discovered crashed in Bear Lake County, Idaho. Authorities believe the teen walked away from the accident and stole a Volkswagen Jetta.
The runaway’s alleged journey ended in Lincoln County, Wyoming, where he was apprehended at 10:48 a.m. after crashing his stolen vehicle again.
Charges and Ongoing Investigation
The juvenile is currently being held in Lincoln County, Wyoming, on charges of felony burglary, felony vehicle theft, felony property destruction, and felony possession of stolen property in that county.
He has also been charged with grand theft in Bear Lake and Jefferson Counties, Idaho.
As of now, the 16-foot ATV trailer with no license plates has not been located. It is believed to have separated from the stolen pickup somewhere between Menan, Idaho, and Afton, Wyoming.
