Flood Advisory in Effect for Multiple Northeast Ohio Counties

CLEVELAND — A Flood Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) for several counties in Northeast Ohio. This advisory is in effect for Ashland, Holmes, Richland, and Wayne counties until 2:30 a.m. Friday. An earlier advisory for parts of Stark and Summit counties expired at 11:15 p.m. Thursday.

What’s Happening: Heavy Rain and Flooding Risks

The National Weather Service reports that 1-3 inches of rain have already fallen across these areas, with another half-inch of rain possible overnight. The region had earlier seen Severe Thunderstorm Warnings and Flash Flood Warnings. Northern Carroll County was under a flash flood warning before it expired at 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Flood-prone areas likely to experience flooding include Mansfield, Wooster, and Ashland. With heavy rain expected in some areas, drivers are urged to stay off flooded roads and follow the simple rule: “Turn around, don’t drown.”

Weekend Outlook: Improving Conditions

According to the 3News Weather Team, although rain could be heavy at times during storms, it is unlikely to cause major problems. Showers will continue into Friday, and there’s a chance that some rain could carry over into Saturday. However, the weekend forecast shows improving conditions with better weather expected as the weekend progresses.

With a Flood Advisory in effect until early Friday morning, residents of Northeast Ohio should stay alert to the potential for flooding, especially in Mansfield, Wooster, and Ashland. Avoid flooded areas and be cautious on the roads. After a soggy start to the weekend, the weather is expected to improve as the rain clears up.
