CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Cheyenne police are investigating a burglary in which more than $9,000 in items were taken from a local garage.
A complainant discovered his property listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace, prompting the arrests of Robin Hoback and Jason Nelson, the latter of whom was sentenced to two to four years in prison, according to court records from the First Judicial District Court of Laramie County.
An arrest warrant was issued on April 1 for Hoback, whose address is listed as Philadelphia, Mississippi. The warrant was served in July.
According to a police affidavit, Cheyenne officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of West 21st Street on February 10 for a burglary.
The person who reported it stated that his garage was broken into sometime between February 4 and February 8, that he had last entered it on February 2 and that no one else had permission to access it.
He told police he saw a Facebook post about two car speakers that resembled his. He was unable to provide serial numbers, but estimated the total value of all missing items at $9,228. He then contacted the seller, Hoback, who stated that some of the items originated from Nelson.
A detective discovered digital evidence of Hoback posting what appeared to be stolen property on social media.
On March 20, Cheyenne police arrested Nelson and transported him to the Laramie County Detention Center.
Later that day, around 1:25 p.m., the detective spoke with Nelson, who identified Hoback and another man as being involved in the burglary.
He said Hoback approached him about purchasing various stolen items from the victim, including a dirt bike, which Nelson declined. Nelson also stated that Hoback brought the stolen items discovered in his motel room.
Hoback is presumed innocent unless he pleads or is found guilty.
