With the beginning of July, millions of Americans who rely on Social Security look forward to receiving their monthly checks. Although Wednesday, July 9, 2025, is designated as a key distribution date, a large number of beneficiaries will not see their payments reflected on that day.
The Social Security Administration (SSA) uses a staggered payment system to ensure efficient distribution of funds, and the dates vary.
The payment schedule is organized according to the type of benefit and, more importantly, the beneficiary’s date of birth. This means that it is critical for each individual to understand the specific dates applicable to their situation in order to avoid confusion and know when to expect their check.
Who has already received their payment in July?
To begin, a specific group of beneficiaries received funds earlier this month, on Thursday, July 3, 2025. This group included the following:
Individuals who began receiving benefits before May 1997.
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who also receive Social Security retirement, disability (SSDI) or survivor benefits.
The vast majority of Social Security recipients will not have their payments reflected on July 9. Individuals who began receiving benefits after May 1997 will have their funds distributed on the following scheduled dates in July, based on their date of birth:
Wednesday, July 16: Deposits for those born between the 11th and 20th of the month.
Wednesday, July 23: Payments for those born between the 21st and 31st of the month.
Who will receive Social Security payments on Wednesday, July 9?
Payments will be for those born between the 1st and 10th of the month.
What are the amounts that can be received from Social Security?
Retirees: around $2,002.39 per month.
People with disabilities (SSDI): approximately $1,581.97.
Surviving beneficiaries: an average of $1,566.66.
Supplemental Security Income (SSI): around $718.30 per month.
