High-speed Chaos: A Man From Riverton Reaches 130 Mph During A Crazy Car Chase That Ends In A Rollover

Riverton, WY — A late-night routine patrol turned into a high-octane pursuit Friday when a 22-year-old Riverton man started a dramatic car chase that reached speeds of 130 mph, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP).

The incident began when troopers observed a vehicle traveling at 80 mph in a 30-mph zone on Riverton’s busy Federal Boulevard. As law enforcement pursued, the suspect veered into oncoming traffic and accelerated north on State Highway 789, which had been reduced to two lanes due to construction.

Despite the risk to the public, the driver continued to flee at high speeds, prompting WHP troopers to use a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) maneuver. The end result was a violent rollover crash in which the car came to rest on its wheels after flipping several times.

“The driver was unrestrained and suffered only minor injuries,” said WHP in an official release on Monday. The man was treated at a local hospital before being arrested on charges of DUI and felony eluding.

WHP also made a public appeal: “If you were one of the vehicles forced off the road by this driver, please reach out via [Facebook] Messenger,” the agency said, thanking the Shoshoni Police Department and the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office for their help in the pursuit.
