An Oklahoma man was charged with murdering his girlfriend, and when police arrived, he reportedly gave them an ominous greeting.
Chad Weathers, 49, was booked into the Osage County Jail on Sunday after police discovered his girlfriend, Tanya Anderson, dead from a gunshot wound at his home.
According to local CBS affiliate KOTV, officers responded to the home after Weathers called 911 around 9:30 a.m. to inform dispatchers that he needed officers at his home.
When asked why, Weathers ended the call.
Police arrived at the house and were greeted at the door by Weathers, who reportedly told them, “I’ve got a weird one for you.” He then allegedly informed them that he had shot his girlfriend the night before.
Anderson was discovered in the bedroom of the house and pronounced dead at the scene. A gun was found next to her body.
Skiatook Police Chief Jason Willingham told WOTV that Anderson’s family had mentioned a history of domestic violence between the couple, but no reports had been filed.
Willingham told WOTV that there was no immediate evidence of a motive for the alleged crime or why Weathers allegedly took so long to report Anderson’s death. He explained that the investigation was only beginning.
“Just because [Weathers] is in jail does not mean the case is closed,” Willingham told WOTV. “We are going to continue to try to find out answers, try to find out ways this could have been prevented.”
He added, “The ‘why.'” The family deserves it. These are clearly traumatic situations. This is a lovely, quiet neighborhood.
Nobody expected something like this to occur. The family did not expect anything like this to occur.”
Weathers was charged with first-degree murder and remains in custody.
