At the Central Wyoming College Rustlers Round-Up in Riverton, Wyoming, this past weekend, the Lancers returned to competition and once again achieved success in a number of events.
Taydon Gorsuch and Teagan Gourneau came to compete in steer wrestling. Gorsuch finished second in the average and earned 120 points over the weekend after winning the long round with a time of 3.8 seconds and the short round with a time of 5.2.
After finishing second in the long round with a time of 4.2 seconds, Gourneau finished fifth in the average and earned 75 points with a time of 5.3 in the short round.
The Lancers were led in the goat tying by South Dakota freshman Tava Sexton. She finished ninth in the average and received 10 points after shooting 7.5 in the long round and 12.0 in the short round.
Cade Else, a freshman from North Dakota, finished fifth in the average and 40 points in the saddle bronc riding after scoring 60 points in the long round and 68 points in the short round.
Kutter Acord, a fellow freshman from Hyannis, Nebraska, finished ninth in the round and average after scoring 65 points in the long round.
Jace Hurlburt and Teagan Gourneau, the only Lancer team ropers, ran 10.1 seconds in the long round. The two placed ninth overall following a no-time in the short round.
Tommie Martin, a sophomore from Hayes, South Dakota, performed well in the breakaway roping and barrel racing events. She split 5th/6th in the barrels with an 18.10 in the long round and finished ninth in the average with an 18.66 in the short round, earning 15 points.
Martin finished ninth in the average during the weekend and qualified for the short round of the breakaway roping by stopping the clock at 2.5 seconds in the long round.
Next weekend, September 26–28, the Lancers will travel to Sheridan once again.
