November 1st has come and gone and your LOTRA annual membership has expired if you have not yet paid it. A 2023-2024 membership form is on our website at LOTRA.org. Please mail your membership form and check to LOTRA, PO Box 632; Lander, Wy 82520, give it to a board member, put it in the locked box at the arena (on the side of the crow’s nest), or sign up at the many activities we are having at the arena. There are many events scheduled so far for the barn. Thanks to Nancy Williams who will be keeping up the barn schedule on the website at LOTRA.org.
Roping practices begin on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting the 7th of November. There are some smaller steers for breakaway at 5:30 p.m. and then team roping at 6:30 p.m. If you DON’T join the barn with a membership, you have to pay $30 per person to rope AND you are required to follow all of the same rules as members. Tara Peter will be collecting the money and she will also make sure people are following the rules. Of the scheduled Team Roping Jackpots, only 3 of them will be saddle ropings–Bates/Peter, Ruby, and Armajo. All otherJackpots will be cash ropings.

The election of officers and board members were held at our Oct. 30 board/member meeting. John Gazso, Vice-President, and Julie Freese, Treasurer, and Tara Peter board member were all re-elected to another 2-year term. New board members are Nick Comes, Emery Day, and Tyson Sims. Congratulations and welcome aboard. Other returning board members are Paula McCormick-President, Brenda Walker-Secretary, Directors Peggy Bartlett, Lee and Nancy Williams, and Corbin Nicholls. We still have one vacancy on the board as Clint Brower goes off–we’ll discuss the other write-ins on the ballot and hopefully fill that spot.
The groundskeeper for this year is Peggy Bartlett and the Cattle Care person is Nick Scribner. Please welcome them and help out when you can to keep our cattle and our indoor barn in good shape. We have increased the number of times the indoor arena will be groomed to a minimum of 5 times per week! This will improve our riding experience with better footing and dust control. We have contracted with Dailen Jones/D & D Livestock for the roping cattle lease for 60 head.
We have made many improvements to the barn this past year, thanks to volunteer John Gazso, who has worked on the watering system, the garage doors, security systems, grounds, cattle shelter, cattle pens, roping chute, and many more projects. We are actively working on grants to make more improvements this year.
