Major Lane Reductions Coming to Wyoming and Genesee Counties This Summer — Expect Delays

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Drivers traveling between Wyoming and Genesee counties should prepare for daily lane reductions on State Route 77 this summer due to a major paving project.

Starting Monday, May 19, and continuing through Friday, August 1, Route 77 will be reduced to a single lane between the Town of Java and the Norfolk Southern railroad crossing in the Town of Darien. Traffic flaggers will be on-site to direct vehicles through the work zones.

Construction will take place on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with work scheduled in two phases:

  • May 19 – June 27: Crews will work between the Route 78 intersection in Java and the Route 20A intersection in the Hamlet of Varysburg.
  • June 30 – August 1: The project will continue from the Route 20A intersection in Varysburg to the railroad crossing in Darien.

The New York State Department of Transportation is advising drivers to expect delays and consider using alternate routes whenever possible.
