Man wanted in 'horrific' killing, where he and his brother allegedly burnt New York family's home, apprehended in the Dominican Republic

A man wanted for a quadruple homicide in upstate New York last summer was apprehended on Wednesday in the Dominican Republic, the United States Marshals Service announced this week.

The Irondequoit Police Department wanted Luis Soriano, also known as Jefry Yevo, 31, on four counts of second-degree murder and narcotics charges. He is also facing charges for arson, burglary, and kidnapping. The case started on August 31, 2024.

Authorities were responding to a fire that morning when they discovered the bodies of Fraime Ubaldo, 30, Marangely Moreno Santiago, 26, and their two young children, Evangeline Ubaldo Moreno, 4, and Sebastian Ubaldo Moreno, 2, in the basement of their home on Knapp Avenue in the town just outside Rochester.

Irondequoit Police Chief Scott Peters stated that he had never witnessed anything like the crime scene that day.

“This was a horrific scene,” Peters stated at the time, according to Rochester ABC affiliate WHAM. “In nearly 32 years of doing this job, I’ve never seen anything like this. Today is Labor Day. It’s supposed to be a happy day spent with your family. This family no longer has that. “Half of this family was gone in an instant.”

Luis Soriano’s brother, Julio Soriano, 34, was arrested one week after the murders. He was reportedly charged with murder, burglary, arson, and kidnapping, and pleaded not guilty in court. According to police, the brothers were cousins to the family’s father.

Luis Soriano was believed to have fled to Puerto Rico, where he was added to the territory’s “10 Most Wanted Fugitives List” last September.

According to the US Marshals, investigators discovered that the suspect fled by boat to the Dominican Republic, where he is originally from. Federal agents discovered the defendant was working at a hotel in Punta Cana and said they arrested him “without incident” after he finished his shift at the hotel’s call center.

Wilmer Ocasio-Ibarra, the United States Marshal for the District of Puerto Rico, expressed gratitude to law enforcement for apprehending the suspect.

“Our communities should feel reassured knowing that this fugitive has been captured and will face justice,” he told reporters. “Every case is significant to us, but this one had a profound impact not only on our communities in New York and Puerto Rico, but also on our entire country.

The horrific nature of this crime, which resulted in the tragic death of a family, including two innocent children, shook the very foundation of our law-and-order society.
