McDonald’s Faces Backlash as McDouble Price Hike Sparks Boycott Threats: ‘I Don’t Buy It Anymore

McDonald’s Faces Backlash Over McDouble Price Hike as Frustrated Customers Threaten Boycott

McDonald’s may still be one of America’s favorite fast-food chains, but recent price increases—especially on fan-favorites like the McDouble—have left many customers angry, disappointed, and ready to take their business elsewhere.

A viral Reddit post recently ignited a wave of frustration after a customer noticed the price of a McDouble at his local McDonald’s had jumped by 25%. The post quickly attracted attention from other users who shared similar complaints about rising prices across the menu—without any noticeable improvement in food quality. For many, McDonald’s no longer feels like the affordable go-to it once was.

Viral Post Highlights Soaring Prices

Fast-food prices have been climbing across the board in recent years, largely due to inflation and economic pressures. But McDonald’s, in particular, has come under fire. According to recent reports, the chain’s menu prices have surged by an average of 40% since 2019. The disappearance of the Dollar Menu back in 2013 only added to the frustration.

The Reddit user, a graduate student, described going to the McDonald’s app to order his usual cheap meal—two McDoubles, fries, and a Sprite—after a long day. He was shocked to see that just the two sandwiches would cost nearly $5. Even with discounts, the full meal would set him back $7.67.

“Just a few weeks ago, on New Year’s Eve, two McDoubles were $3.99,” he wrote. Disappointed, he ended the post by saying he’d rather stick to eating ramen than pay these new prices at the Golden Arches.

Customers Speak Out: ‘It’s Just Not Worth It Anymore’

The post quickly sparked a wave of responses from other disillusioned fast-food fans who feel priced out of a once-affordable dining option.

“I can’t bring myself to spend more than $10 on a fast food meal, so I never buy it anymore,” one Redditor shared. “The only time I go is when I have a free reward.”

Another wrote, “Yeah, and the quality’s gone down too. It’s a sham now.”

Others said they’ve drastically cut back on fast food altogether: “I used to eat it once a week. Now I’ve basically stopped. Prices are just too high.”

Several users pointed out that for the same cost—or just a little more—they could sit down at a casual restaurant and get better food and service.

Nostalgia for the Dollar Menu Days

Despite its massive presence and loyal customer base, McDonald’s is clearly losing favor with some longtime patrons who remember when a dollar could still get you a cheeseburger. For many, that affordability was part of what made the chain so beloved—and its fading presence is leaving a bad taste in their mouths.

As McDonald’s continues to navigate pricing challenges, it may face more than just economic hurdles—it could also lose the trust of the budget-conscious customers who helped build its empire.
