Police are searching for a seven-month-old boy who was allegedly kidnapped in San Bernardino County, California.
Rebecca Haro, the boy’s mother, reported on Thursday that she was attacked outside a business in Yucaipa. Officers responded to the call around 7:47 p.m. and were informed that the woman’s child was missing. The boy has been identified as Emmanuel Haro.
The mother claimed her son was kidnapped after she was attacked.
Police brought scent-tracking dogs to try to find the child, but the dogs were unable to lead them to the missing boy.
The mother told NBC LA on Friday that she was just removing her son from his car seat at the plaza when she was hit from behind. She is from Cabazon, about 90 miles east of Los Angeles, and was in Yucaipa for her older son’s youth sports game.
“I noticed a smell from my baby, so I wanted to change him before going into the store,” she explained to the broadcaster. “I took him out of his car seat and placed him on the chair. I had his diapers here when someone said, ‘Hola.’ I couldn’t turn, and I don’t remember anything. I got up from the floor but didn’t see my child. “Someone took him from me.”
Police did not provide information about the attack or a description of the attacker or attackers.
While the search for the child continues, investigators stated on Saturday that they “cannot rule out foul play.”
Police interviewed the boy’s parents, Jake and Rebecca Haro. “During those interviews, Rebecca was confronted with inconsistencies in her initial statement and declined to continue with the interview,” the sheriff’s office stated on Saturday. Authorities said the search for the child is ongoing.
Emmanuel’s parents have urged anyone with information to come forward.
“Whoever took my son, please return him,” Jake Haro told KTLA. “We only want him back. We will not do anything to you. Please give us our son. Keep him safe, do not hurt him, and make sure he is fed and changed.”
“If you know anything, please come forward or take him to the cops,” Rebecca told the outlet. “Please come and bring back my son. “I beg you.”
Local law enforcement is also asking for the public’s assistance in finding the child.
The infant was last seen wearing a Nike onesie and weighing around 21 pounds. The boy is about 24 inches tall, with brown hair and eyes.
Anyone with information is asked to contact 911 or San Bernardino Sheriff’s Dispatch at 909-387-8313.
