Cheyenne, Wyoming — On Thursday, a Cheyenne man pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder in the shooting death of his roommate, Ryan Snow, 18, shortly after midnight on June 13.
Nathan Pfaff, 19, appeared before Laramie County District Court Judge Peter H. Froelicher from custody on Thursday, according to publicly available state court records.
He is being held in the county jail after a $250,000 bond was set by circuit court. It is unclear whether Pfaff argued for a bond reduction during his district court arraignment.
A criminal case management order has been issued, and a trial date is tentatively scheduled for later this year. Pfaff’s attorney, Devon Peterson, filed a demand for a speedy trial, which would be within 180 days, at Thursday’s arraignment.
Pfaff is presumed innocent until proven or pleaded guilty.
According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office, witnesses reported the two roommates “bickering” at the West Winds Mobile Home Park on the evening of June 12.
Two other people, a neighbor and another roommate, were at the house and both called 911 to report the shooting about 15 minutes after midnight on Friday, June 13.
The neighbor, a 49-year-old man who claimed to have been there to sell Pfaff a gun, initially stated that he had seen Pfaff shoot Snow before leaving, but later claimed he had no idea who the shooter was.
At 8:35 p.m., security footage from a neighbor’s house captured Pfaff’s Buick approaching the residence and parking out of camera view. According to the affidavit, the distinctively noisy Buick was heard starting up and driving away around the time the witnesses reported the shooting.
According to the report, deputies found Snow slumped on the couch with a major head wound. Pfaff was not present at the time, but arrived a few minutes later.
