Salem, OR. – Official Release: Governor Tina Kotek and Oregon State Police Superintendent Casey Codding issued a statement ahead of the weekend, when several pre-planned demonstrations against the Trump administration are expected across the state.
Governor Kotek stated:
“I support Oregonians’ right to peacefully demonstrate; it is a cornerstone of American democracy.” Please know that I will do everything in my power to protect the rights and safety of our residents, including our immigrant communities.
“Violence, harm to public safety workers, property destruction, and any other illegal activity will not be tolerated. I fully support state and local law enforcement in their efforts to hold individuals who cross these lines accountable.
“Furthermore, we are aware that these acts undermine the very values we seek to uphold in Oregon, fracturing our communities in the process.” We urge all Oregonians to remain safe, vigilant, and report any criminal activity.”
Superintendent Casey Codding stated:
“The Oregon State Police will work with partners across the state to protect your rights and safety over the weekend. “We are asking our communities to join us in this endeavor.”
