ANGELS CAMP, CA — A heavily overloaded logging truck was pulled off the road on Monday, May 13, after the Angels Camp Police Department called in help from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Valley Division.
CHP officers discovered the truck was dangerously over the legal weight limit—more than 8,000 pounds over the allowed gross weight and a staggering 15,000 pounds over on its rear axles.
The truck was visibly leaning to one side, which CHP officials said posed a serious risk not only to other drivers but also to the roads and infrastructure.
“This vehicle was a clear danger to public safety,” the CHP Valley Division said in a statement. “Thanks to our officer’s quick response, a possible disaster may have been avoided.”

Angels Camp, located in Calaveras County, is known for its steep hills and tight, winding roads—making it especially hazardous for overloaded commercial trucks.
Vehicles carrying more weight than they’re built for are much more likely to experience rollovers, brake failures, tire blowouts, or cause significant damage to the roads—all of which can lead to serious accidents.
