Two parents in Indiana are facing criminal charges after bringing their 2-month-old son to the hospital with 11 rib fractures and eye bleeding, which they attempted to blame on him being “gassy” and his car seat being too tight, according to cops.

Lindsey Davis, 34, and MacQuell Davis Jr., 30, have both denied knowing about their son’s injuries before doctors discovered them through X-rays and exams, according to local ABC affiliate WEHT, citing police and Department of Child Services officials.

Evansville Police say the 2-month-old was taken to the hospital on April 21 for alleged gas and remained there for several days. His injuries appeared to have occurred about a week before his arrival, according to WEHT.

Police say the child fractured five ribs on his right side and six on his left.

Lindsey Davis allegedly told investigators that she noticed blood in the boy’s eyes about a week before taking him in, but she kept him at home and did nothing to treat it. Lindsey Davis allegedly told police that one of the couple’s other children had experienced similar symptoms in the past and was fine.

According to EPD officials, Lindsey Davis stated during her police interview that she believed her son’s injuries were caused by his car seat being too tight.

MacQuell Davis has denied being aware of any drops or accidents involving the child. According to the infant’s medical report, his injuries were caused by or resulted from physical abuse.

Both parents have been charged with neglecting their dependent, which resulted in serious bodily injury. They are being held in Vanderburgh County Jail on $25,000 bonds. Their children have been placed under the care of a family member.
