The NWS urges residents to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activities, and check in on vulnerable neighbors, including the elderly and those with medical conditions. Cooling centers may open across Allegheny County and nearby regions if heat indices reach projected peaks, offering a place for residents to stay cool.
Weekend Heat Builds into Record-Setting Week
Saturday will be mostly sunny, with a high of 89°F, but the heat will ramp up significantly by Sunday. Pittsburgh will see highs in the mid-90s, and the heat index could make it feel closer to 100°F.
This trend will continue into Monday and Tuesday, with highs of 95°F each day under mostly clear skies. There will be no major storms during this period, but the NWS warns that high humidity will make the heat feel much hotter.

The NWS also reminds everyone that children and pets should never be left in vehicles, even for brief periods. The temperature inside a car can climb to dangerous levels in just minutes, leading to heatstroke and potential death.
