Police are looking for an unknown suspect in the deaths of Clinton David Brink, 43, and Cristen Amanda Brink, 41, according to an Arkansas State Police release issued Sunday.
The Brinks were hiking in Devil’s Den State Park with their two daughters, ages 7 and 9, who were unharmed in the attack. According to police, the girls are safe with their family members.
The park is in a remote and rural area where the terrain is “rugged, vegetation is thick, and there is no cellphone service,” according to police. Police were notified of the suspected double homicide around 2:40 p.m. on Saturday.
The suspect is described as a white male with a medium build. Investigators believe he was dressed in a long-sleeved shirt with sleeves rolled up, dark pants, a dark ballcap, sunglasses, and fingerless gloves.
Police said he was driving towards the park exit in a black four-door sedan, possibly a Mazda, with its license plate covered by tape. The vehicle could have been traveling on State Highway 170 or State Highway 220 near the park.
The area has been cordoned off, and police have asked park visitors to share any images they may have of the suspect taken Saturday. Local residents have also been asked to review security and game camera footage.
In the release, Shea Lewis, secretary of the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage, and Tourism, stated that police presence has increased at state parks.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic events at Devil’s Den State Park.” Our thoughts are with the victims’ loved ones during this extremely difficult time.
The safety of our visitors and staff is our top priority, and we are cooperating with Arkansas State Police and other law enforcement officials as the investigation continues,” the statement read.
Police said the Brinks family had recently moved to Prairie Grove from another state.
