A Louisiana woman was arrested after police said she and her brother assaulted her ex-boyfriend, telling him, “He should die.”
According to court documents obtained by local news outlet The Advocate, Ruby Ealy, 48, was arrested on May 29 after police responded to reports of a shooting in an East Baton Rouge, Louisiana neighborhood.
When police arrived, they discovered that the alleged victim, who was not named but identified as Ruby Ealy’s ex-boyfriend, had a gunshot wound in the arm.
The ex-boyfriend allegedly told police that Ruby Ealy beat him with a baseball bat before shooting him.
According to The Advocate’s reporting on the documents, the ex-boyfriend told police that he and Ruby Ealy, who had dated for three years but had been apart for a year, had an argument earlier that night.
When interviewed by police, Ruby Ealy stated the same thing. However, the former couple’s story diverged after that.
The ex-boyfriend claimed that Ruby Ealy’s brother, Darius Ealy, was present during the argument and was the one who allegedly shot him.
Prior to the alleged gunfire, the ex-boyfriend claimed that both siblings beat him up with a baseball bat and told him “he should die.” They also allegedly beat him with their fists.
Local ABC affiliate WBRZ also obtained the documents, reporting that Ruby Ealy told police she heard the gunshots from inside the house.
Ruby Ealy initially claimed that it was just her and her ex-boyfriend at home. She also reportedly accused her ex-boyfriend of physically assaulting her, prompting her to act in self-defense.
According to court documents, Ruby Ealy eventually identified Darius Ealy as the person who allegedly shot her ex-boyfriend.
According to police, Darius Ealy allegedly shot the ex-boyfriend multiple times after he left the house. Darius Ealy was not on the scene when police arrived and is believed to be at large.
Ruby Ealy was arrested on charges including attempted second-degree murder and domestic battery.
