Two California teenagers, ages 14 and 15, allegedly “stomped” a 66-year-old man to death outside a church, leaving and returning multiple times “to take turns” repeatedly attacking him before swiping his clothes and fleeing, according to prosecutors.
According to a press release from the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office, Davy Glen Pichel of Oxnard was found battered and partially naked outside St. Anthony’s Catholic Church on the morning of June 5, following a beating the night before.
The two teenagers allegedly targeted the local man while he was sleeping. According to the DA’s office, surveillance footage from church cameras shows the alleged attack unfolding.
“The video shows the teens approaching Mr. Pichel while he was seated near the church side door next to his wheelchair,” the office stated in its release.
The teenagers allegedly beat and stomped on the victim. They briefly walked away before allegedly returning to stomp him again.”
Pichel claimed that the teenagers returned “repeatedly” to abuse the victim.
According to prosecutors, on the third attack, the teens allegedly unleashed one final flurry of violence before removing Pichel’s clothes and “fleeing the scene.” Pichel was discovered by a church volunteer near the side entrance with “significant injuries to the head and facial area” and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The teens were supposed to be arraigned this week, but their hearings have been pushed back to June 24, according to prosecutors. The DA’s office informed Law&Crime on Thursday that they are being held at a local juvenile facility and are currently facing charges in juvenile court.
