We’ve hit fall and the final calendar year event of the season for the Rocky Mountain Breeders
Association (RMBA).
As always, we had a busy, thriving year. From stallion auction to clinic, to show series, wrapped up with the Annual Membership Meeting and Awards Banquet. The meeting and banquet was set for Saturday, November 4, 2023, at the Pass Creek Community Center outside of Belgrade, Montana.
Talk about a well-attended event! It was potluck, with a huge silent auction, awesome decorations, and a great set of Year End Awards.
The Annual Meeting started first and included the election of three new directors. Outgoing officers were President, Jane Mersen; 1 st Vice-President, Tristram Hokenson; and Treasurer, Wendy Dellinger. Can’t say “Thank You” enough to each of our officers for their time and hard work in the RMBA. Incoming officers are President, Julia Tietz Wintersteen; 1 st Vice-President, Jess Woodring; and Treasurer, Katie Ennis. Welcome ladies and here’s to a great term for all!

We moved into the start of awards presentations and kicked off with the Stallion Service Auction, High Selling Stallion Service award. This year it was a tie between two top notch stallions! One award went to Dual Red Hot. This pretty sorrel is a son of Dual R Smokin and out of a daughter of Play Red. Showing he is highly versatile, he works on the ranch and has earnings in reined cow horse and roping events. He is owned by Luke Wiggins of Wiggins Horses in Twin Bridges, Montana. The other co-winner stallion, wrapped in a gorgeous buckskin coat is Roll Your Nickles. A son of Shiners Nickle and out of a daughter of Dual Rey, this young stallion is already wracking up an impressive reined cow horse show record. He is owned by Seven Cross Quarter Horses, Logan Krone and Darcy Jorgenson and family.
The stallions each received monogrammed turnout blankets with their award title sponsored by J Bar F performance Horses in Townsend, Montana.
A fairly new award that has hit the ranch series is the Edgar Icenoggle Memorial Top Hand Award. Sponsored by Bruce and Polly Icenoggle of Icenoggle Ranch in Plains, Montana, this year’s winner was Katie Ennis of Helena, Montana! Katie received a belt buckle; a custom-made headstall by Marc Brogger, saddlemaker of Three Forks, Montana; and a payout check. Unlike the points awarded to the series High Point winners, the riders themselves vote for who they believe epitomizes the “Top Hand” for the RMBA show season. It is a combination of participation, taking time to welcome others, being willing to help set up before the show and tear down afterwards. Just as all who knew Edgar Icenoggle knew his hard work and time invested in the RMBA, and appreciated his work. His sense of humor was a bonus! Katie
did it all and did so with a cheerful smile. Congratulations, Katie, on such a prestigious award!

Congratulations to all our winners from the 2023 year! Here’s looking to 2024!
Members, you’ve received a hard copy 2024 Membership Form in the mail. All memberships paid now are applied to 2024. No time like the present to get ready for 2024. For exhibitors, since membership is required to show, this is one less thing on your “to do” list if you pay now.
You’ll also notice a transition from the bi-monthly Wrangler newsletter to a monthly e-Newsletter. This is to ensure more members are reading the updates and information. The RMBA has a long-standing history with the Wrangler and you’ll still see advertising through this fine print media. You’ll also continue finding us on Facebook, as well.
Stallion owners, the Stallion Service Auction nomination is open for the 2024 auction. What benefits come with the participation? A membership for the year; advertising on the website on both Stallion Alley and on the Stallion Service Auction page; stallion and offspring are eligible for the Stallion Stakes classes, which are limited eligibility classes with added payout monies held during the Ranch Horse Competition series; print media advertising in The Wrangler Horse & Rodeo News: and social media advertising on our Facebook page. Social media promotion is also shared into many other groups across Montana and well out of state, too. The stallions receive listing in the RMBA e-Directory along with ads if any are supplied to the RMBA, plus other e-blasts that go out to close to 300 recipients on average.
Totality of promotion reaches thousands between each advertising model. Stallion owners are also suggested to take advantage of providing a weatherproof arena banner that is hung in the arena during all events. Get in front of the very public who will be looking for their next mare cross or to purchase potential performance horses.
