RMBA News | Dec. 20, 2022

We’re hoping we are all on Santa’s “nice list” for the Christmas season. For those of you who are responsible for playing the role of Santa for your family and friends, let the Rocky Mountain Breeders Association (RMBA) help with some stocking stuffer and present ideas.

Memberships are always a great gift idea. Tuck a membership to the RMBA in somebody’s stocking, card, or more. Membership gets you all of the communications of and for the RMBA; like to do some showing at the Ranch Horse Competition series? Membership is a requirement and also serves to make you eligible for Year End High Point awards if showing in at least 50 percent of the offered shows. Maybe you’re working towards your business and/or breeding program promotion? Memberships to equine organizations serve to play a role as a business expense and investment. Sponsorships in honor of someone are also another way to preserve in memory of those important people.

Don’t forget our other amazing Sponsors for your gift giving. Whether its tack, attire, or other items check out the Four Corners Saddlery and Boutique at Four Corners outside of Bozeman, Montana. Find yourselves in Livingston, Montana? A stop at The Spur Line is a must! They also offer a multitude of items. Looking to stock up on nutritional feed for your favorite horse? Visit with Triple Crown Nutrition representative, Shannon Keller, in Dillon, Montana. Are you of the practical mind? Insurance can be a primary way to protect yourself and your investment. If this is a need, contact Kevin Peterson of dvMountainview Insurance in Dillon, Montana. For all you horse enthusiasts that also run cattle, don’t forget to line up quality bull power. Contact Jake Callentine and Jane Mersen of Timber Line Ranch outside of Belgrade, Montana. Be sure to tell these great supporters of the RMBA “Thank You” for their support.

Here’s an idea for a great Christmas present. Whether its that special person, yourself, or your favorite mare, consider a breeding to one of these top quality stallions that are participants in the 2023 Annual Stallion Service Auction.

Must know items for mare owners: You’re bidding on the breeding fee only, all other related costs are the mare owner’s responsibility including items such as mare care, chute fee, booking fee, shipped costs, and/or items listed; many stallion owners have criteria for the mare to meet prior to breeding such as negative culture, full breeding soundness exam, specific vaccinations, an Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA aka “coggins” test) or other items. It is the mare owner’s responsibility to have their mare ready to breed; several stallions require a signed and dated breeding contract on hand before the mare arrives, that may include a non-refundable booking fee. Booking fees are there to hold a spot for that mare to that stallion.

Mare owners are encouraged to contact the stallion owner/manager prior to bidding. Discuss your mare, goals for the offspring, schedule for breeding availability, and more. It is encouraged that talking to the stallion owner/manager prior, with mare owner knowing the full expenses and criteria, the experience can be a great one. Often not only resulting in a top-notch baby on the ground, but the start of a solid friendship, too.

The Stallion Service Auction starts January 15 th on the RMBA website www.montanarmba.org “Stallions” tab, where you’ll see the Stallion Service Auction button. Round 1 goes through March 1st. Any stallions not receiving a bid during Round 1 will go to a “Buy Now” feature effective March 2nd. Stallions may be added throughout the auction, so checking the auction regularly is worthwhile. Click on each stallion’s name to pull up their details, criteria for breeding, additional photos, contract if applicable, and more.

When purchasing a breeding through the auction, the stallion’s breeding fee goes to the RMBA as the single largest fundraiser annually. Stallion owners are generously donating these breedings. The winning bidder is required to send payment to the RMBA within 7 days of close of Round 1. Buyers in Round 2 under the “Buy Now” option are required to send payment in within 7 days of their bid.

The purchase of a breeding is entering into a legal and binding contract.

Read on for the great stallions we’ve already got lined up! Talk about one fancy set of sires!
