CODY, Wyo. — There’s just something about competing in front of the Wyoming crowd.
Brody Cress, a cowboy from Hillsdale, Wyoming, wowed the crowd at the Cody Stampede this past weekend by winning the saddle bronc with a 90-point ride. That earned him a check for more than $10,000.
When you combine that with his three victories at the Cheyenne Frontier Days, you get the impression that Cress is adept at handling high-pressure situations.
“It’s wonderful to be in my home state. I owe a lot to this. I wouldn’t be in this position if it hadn’t been for the people who supported me here and the way I grew up here,” Cress said. “I enjoy rodeoing in Wyoming. There’s no better way to spend your summer than at a rodeo in Wyoming.”
Cress’ wrestling career began in high school, when he won three state championships in the Cowboy State. Every time he saddles up, he remembers what he learned on the mat.
“Wrestling translates over well, just with the mental side of things,” Cress mentioned. “Rodeo can be great one week and then terrible the next. You must have the mindset of determining what I need to fix, what is within my control and what is beyond my control, and then figuring out how to keep pushing and winning.”
Cress has had a life-changing experience, as his newborn son is now the focal point of his daily life, which is very much go, go, go and always on the road.
“This is Roweler Rank Cress.” He just turned one on June 26th. It has been an absolute blessing. Cress said, “I can’t imagine life without him now.” “He’s also a very easygoing baby, which is a good thing.
He has been rodeoing since he was three weeks old. He traveled to Cheyenne for his first rodeo. He does not really have a schedule. It’s just what we do, so it’s fine.”
With a name like that, baby Cress appears destined for stardom.
