Smoke filled the vehicle: Dad caught 'hot-boxing' car with 2-year-old son in back seat when parked outside posh hotel, police say

A New York father was arrested outside a swanky Florida hotel for “hot-boxing” his car with a woman while his 2-year-old son sat helplessly in the back seat, police say.

Phillip Fraisar, 36, of Hamlin, New York, and Kasey Buckmann, 27, of Rochester, New York, were allegedly apprehended outside the Clevelander Hotel in Miami Beach’s Art Deco District on Sunday night, according to arrest affidavits obtained by Law&Crime.

The two were parked outside the valet area at 1020 Ocean Drive. Police say they were smoking cannabis and drinking tequila inside their car. According to police, the child with them was Fraisar’s son.

“The marijuana smoke filled the vehicle, as is commonly referred to as hot-boxing,” police wrote in their arrest affidavits. A “large clear bag of marijuana” was allegedly discovered under the driver’s seat, along with a pistol in the glove box, according to the affidavits.

Fraisar, a felon, was allegedly within “arm’s reach” of the firearm, according to police. According to court records, his previous conviction was for criminal possession of a weapon.

As officers arrived, Fraisar was seen exiting the vehicle and abandoning Buckmann and his son. He eventually returned and was taken into custody.

Both Fraisar and Buckmann face child abuse charges. Buckmann is also charged with marijuana possession, and Fraisar has been charged with felon in possession of a firearm.

According to court records, the pair asked to be represented by public defenders after entering not guilty pleas on Tuesday.

They both requested a jury trial and are being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $8,000 bond. There are no court dates scheduled yet.
