Southeast Wyoming Weather Warning: Isolated Tornadoes and Severe Storms Likely Until Midnight

Cheyenne, Wyoming – Severe storms are expected to develop across southeast Wyoming and western Nebraska this afternoon, with large hail and damaging winds posing the most significant threats.

The National Weather Service in Cheyenne has issued a Level 3 (Enhanced Risk) for severe weather, which will be in effect between 2 and 7 p.m. on Monday, June 16. Cities such as Cheyenne, Torrington, Scottsbluff, and Alliance will be directly impacted by these storms.

Along with damaging winds and large hail, there is also a risk of isolated tornadoes and flash flooding, particularly in areas where storm cells cluster or train over the same locations.

Travel Precautions and Safety Measures

Travelers on Wyoming Highway 85 and Interstate 80 should stay alert as storms may reduce visibility and create hazardous driving conditions. Residents are advised to secure outdoor items and remain weather-aware, as storms can rapidly escalate and become dangerous.

Nighttime Storms Possible

While the storms are expected to taper off in the evening, nocturnal storms are possible after midnight, especially near the Nebraska border as instability remains. Residents should continue to monitor weather alerts and be prepared for rapid changes in weather conditions.
