STORM WATCH: Severe Storms Impacting Evening Commute

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for several New Jersey counties, including Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Salem, Somerset, Sussex, and Warren, until 9 p.m. tonight.

Severe Thunderstorm Threats

Strong thunderstorms are moving through the state this evening and are expected to last into the overnight hours. The primary risks associated with these storms include damaging winds of 60 mph or more, which can easily cause power outages and property damage. In addition to strong winds, heavy rain will lead to quickly flooding roads and sidewalks.

As the storm moves through, wind-driven rain will reduce visibility, making driving particularly hazardous. The intense rain will last for about half an hour, and then the storm will slowly move off to the east. Due to the nature of these storms, it’s important to stay cautious, especially if you need to travel this evening.

Weather Outlook for Tomorrow

Once the storm front passes, conditions will calm down, and slightly lower humidity levels will provide a break from the oppressive heat. Wednesday is expected to be a beautiful summer day, with mainly sunny skies and warm temperatures. There’s a very slight chance of an isolated thunderstorm, but otherwise, it will be a typical July day for the region.

Please stay alert if you’re in the affected areas, as severe storms could disrupt the evening commute and bring hazardous conditions. If you’re out on the roads, drive cautiously and be prepared for rapidly changing weather. By tomorrow, conditions will improve, and we’ll see a pleasant, summer day ahead.
