STROUD TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY — According to authorities, a Stroudsburg man was arrested after allegedly beating a 60-year-old man with a belt before stabbing him on Tuesday.
According to the Stroud Township Police Department, 26-year-old Stroudsburg resident Jerry Morris is facing multiple charges, including a Felony Count of Attempted Criminal Homicide and Aggravated Assault, among others.
According to the criminal complaint, police were called to Momento’s Restaurant on Tuesday just before 12:00 p.m. after Morris beat a 60-year-old man with a belt and stabbed him in the parking lot.
Police say when they arrived, the victim was motionless and was taken to a nearby hospital.
Morris was arrested after a witness identified him as the attacker, authorities said.
The victim told officials he was going to feed wildlife near an abandoned building when he thought he saw a friend sleeping near the back of the building, not realizing it was Morris.
Morris allegedly attacked the victim with a belt and a tree branch after the victim approached him, according to court documents.
According to the complaint, Morris then took the victim’s cane and struck him in the face before attempting to gouge out his eyes, resulting in a puncture wound in his left hand.
According to officials, Morris was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries before being transported to the Monroe County Correctional Facility.
