Memphis, Tennessee – Extreme heat is set to take over southwest Tennessee on Monday, with heat indices soaring above 105°F. This intense heat will create dangerous conditions between 12 p.m. and 9 p.m., putting residents at risk of heat-related illnesses.
Heat Advisory for Tennessee and Mississippi
The National Weather Service in Memphis has issued a heat advisory for much of the Mississippi River delta, which includes cities like Memphis, Clarksdale, Forrest City, and Blytheville. Due to high humidity and a stalled cold front, the heat index could reach as high as 108°F in some areas.
Safety Tips During Extreme Heat
With temperatures reaching dangerous levels, residents are urged to take precautions throughout the day. It is recommended to stay indoors during the peak heat of the afternoon, take frequent breaks in shade or air-conditioned spaces, and avoid strenuous activities like exercise or working outside.
Never leave pets or children unattended in vehicles. If you must work outdoors, wear light-colored clothing and stay hydrated.
Local authorities have warned that city services in Memphis and surrounding areas may adjust their outdoor operations due to the extreme heat. Hospitals are also on alert, as there is a heightened risk of heat-related illnesses.
Monday’s extreme heat is the first major heat event of the season in Tennessee and Mississippi, following a period of milder temperatures in June. The heat advisory will remain in effect until 9 p.m. Monday, but further alerts may be issued if the extreme heat continues into Tuesday.
