The Natrona County Suicide Prevention Task Force (NCSPTF) invites the community to join them for the 22nd Annual Breaking the Silence; Suicide Prevention Walk on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 4:00-6:00 PM at Crossroads Pavilion (1101 N. Poplar St., Casper).

Wyoming Behavioral Institute is a co-sponsor of this powerful event, which brings together survivors, families, advocates, and community members to remember, heal, and hope.

Participants will walk in memory of those who died by suicide, show support for those who are struggling, and raise awareness of the resources available to help prevent future tragedies.

“In the United States, one person commits suicide every eleven minutes. “In Natrona County, we lose a life every 12 days,” said Task Force member Lance Neiberger. “This event reminds us that we are not alone in this fight. Together, we can end the silence, reduce stigma, and save lives.”

The Breaking the Silence Walk will include:

Community resource booths with local mental health providers and organizations

Remembrance activities to honor loved ones lost to suicide

Speakers and advocates sharing stories of hope and resilience

Opportunities to learn about suicide prevention, mental wellness, and how to support those in need

The public is encouraged to participate in the Breaking the Silence Walk and speak out against suicide. Sponsorship opportunities are also available, with proceeds going directly to NCSPTF’s prevention, education, and support programs in Natrona County.

To participate in the event, no registration is required. This event is open to all participants, regardless of physical ability. There is no set distance, and walking is optional; your presence and participation are most important.

Why This Matters

Wyoming has consistently ranked among the top five states with the highest suicide rate per capita, with deaths affecting people of all ages. In 2024, 32 people died by suicide in Natrona County.

Suicide is still the second leading cause of death for youth and young adults in the United States, and suicide rates among older adults in Wyoming are more than three times higher than national average.

For over 25 years, the NCSPTF has been at the forefront of suicide prevention in Natrona County. The Task Force offers free Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) trainings, school-based peer trainings, resource packets for families affected by suicide, and support groups for both suicide loss and attempt survivors.

NCSPTF is dedicated to lowering suicide rates and creating a healthier, more resilient community through education, outreach, and collaboration with local partners.
