The county assessor informs residents of changes in homeowner exemptions

Sheridan County Assessor Paul Fall is notifying residents of changes to the Wyoming statewide homeowner property tax exemption.

Fall reminds residents that Wyoming Legislature-created property tax exemptions remain in effect for the 2026 tax year, and some require homeowner action.

The statewide homeowner exemption, which reduces a qualifying residence’s fair market value by 25% up to the first $1 million, took effect automatically in 2025.

To continue receiving the exemption, homeowners must notify the Assessor’s Office that the property is their primary residence starting this year. Fall and the assessor’s office staff are actively working to notify homeowners of the change.

Fall said applications for all of the tax programs open on Oct. 1. But the deadline for the 25 percent homeowner exemption is Feb 2.
