(Fremont County, WY) – According to recently filed court documents, 29-year-old Patrick Brown’s sentencing hearing has been scheduled for September 4, 2025, following a plea change.
Brown was initially charged with felony kidnapping and felony child abuse following a February 9 incident in which he was reported to have stolen a vehicle left running outside a Riverton home while the owner was unloading items.
An infant child was still inside the vehicle when it was stolen, and according to court documents, Brown abandoned it later that evening on a dark road in cold temperatures.
Brown pleaded “not guilty” to the charges in April, and the jury trial was scheduled for July 21. However, on June 19, a plea agreement was filed on his behalf, stating that Brown would plead “guilty” to the felony kidnapping (removal) charge, as per the third amended information document, which did not include the felony child abuse charge.
The plea agreement also stated that Brown would be sentenced to no less than eight and no more than ten years in prison. The maximum penalty for a felony kidnapping (removal) charge is 20 years in prison.
The plea agreement also stated that the parties will ask the court to recommend Brown for the Youthful Offender Treatment Program.
The court will decide whether to accept or reject the plea at the September 4 sentencing hearing, which will be presided over by Honorable Judge Jason Conder.
