MERCER COUNTY, Ohio — The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal motorcycle crash on U.S. 127 Sunday evening.

Just before 5:30 p.m., county dispatchers received calls reporting a crash at the intersection of US 127 and State Road 274.

According to the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, a pickup truck traveling south on US 127 attempted to turn left onto State Road 274.

A 45-year-old motorcyclist named Timothy Betts was also riding south on U.S. 127 when he “attempted to pass several cars in a clearly marked no-passing zone.”

Betts collided with the pickup truck as it attempted to turn, throwing him off the motorcycle.

Betts was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead. He did not wear a helmet, according to the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation will be referred to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office for further review.

The incident was the fourth fatal crash in Mercer County in 2025.
