Two men and a woman in Ohio will be sentenced to prison for abusing a 6-year-old boy, which culminated in the child being handcuffed and mauled by a dog, leaving him with a number of serious physical injuries, authorities announced.
Following a four-day trial, a jury in Ashland County convicted Robert Michalski, Jr. — the owner of the pit bull that attacked the boy and the home where it occurred — of multiple criminal charges, including two counts of complicity to endanger children and one count of tampering with evidence, all of which are felonies.
Jurors found him not guilty of kidnapping, possessing criminal tools, and endangering children, according to court records.
Angelina Williams, the victim’s mother, pleaded guilty last month to one count of kidnapping and four counts of endangering children.
Taylor Marvin-Brown, Williams’ “paramour,” pleaded guilty in April to one count of obstructing justice and three counts of complicity in a felony (one for kidnapping and two for endangering children).
According to a news release from the Ashland County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, the charges against the trio stem from “a disturbing pattern of abuse” that culminated on August 17, 2024, at Michalski’s Savannah, Ohio, home.
“Two children — a young boy and his sister — were being periodically restrained using handcuffs and other devices in Michalski’s home,” according to the news release. “On August 17, 2024, while the boy was restrained, he was attacked by a dog, resulting in serious physical injuries.”
The boy and his sister, who were also victims of abuse, have recovered and are now in the care of a legal custodian who provides “appropriate support and protection,” according to prosecutors.
As previously reported by Law&Crime, deputies responded to Michalski’s home after receiving reports of a pit bull biting a child on the neck and ear.
Emergency medical personnel examined the child and determined that his injuries were severe enough to warrant an airlift to the hospital.
Williams and Marvin-Brown were at the house when deputies arrived, but Michalski appeared to have fled with the attacking dog.
However, he was later discovered hiding with the dog in an upstairs crawl space, and the animal was later deemed “vicious” and impounded.
Following an investigation, authorities stated that Michalski, Williams, and Marvin-Brown restrained the boy with handcuffs on his hands and feet and placed the dog on him.
Prosecutors claimed that the trio used “corporal punishment” in a cruel manner for an extended period of time, posing a “substantial risk” of physical harm to the boy and his sister.
Michalski’s sentencing hearing before Judge David Stimpert on July 21, 2025, could result in a maximum sentence of nine years in a state correctional facility.
Williams will be sentenced on June 30, and Marvin-Brown will learn his fate on July 14. Both face up to forty years in prison.
